COLUMBIA, Mo. – Darius King finished first in the shot put, Cameron Cantrall finished second in the high jump and McKayla Cole finished second in the 5,000-meters to lead UNI at a weather-shortened Tom Botts Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri.
The meet included just eight events across the board before weather ended the meet early due to inclement weather. Despite the short meet, King continued his strong spring. He tied his best-ever outdoor shot put mark of 19.32m which is second on the UNI All-Time list for the outdoor shot. He then topped his personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 58.33m to move to ninth on the UNI All-time hammer list and take fifth in the event. Kyler Yodts took third in the hammer with a career-best throw of 62.8m the third-best all-time hammer throw at UNI.
King currently leads the MVC in the shot put and Yodts is second in the league in the Hammer.
Seb Gearhart finished 11th in the loaded field in the 1,500-meter run with a career-best time of 3:51.19, but his time was good enough to move him into third place in the Valley to date this season.
Freshman pole vaulter Brendan Safley finished fifth at the meet with a vault of 5.76m, five centimeters off of his career-best, but good enough for third in the valley so far this season.
