Panthers Host Valparaiso on Friday

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI women's tennis team is set to resume Missouri Valley Conference play on Friday as they host Valparaiso at 3 p.m. at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo, Iowa. A limited number of fans will be allowed and are requested to contact the Black Hawk Tennis Club ahead of Friday's match.
The Panthers closed out non-conference play last weekend with road losses against Northern Illinois and Chicago State. In doubles action against Chicago State on Mar. 27, Thaissa Moreira/senior Valentina Caro swept Susana Andres/Sofiya Sedovich, 6-0. Moreira went on to earn a win on the No. 2 singles court, leading 6-2, 3-0, before her opponent retired.
Last Time Against Valparaiso
UNI defeated Valparaiso, 6-1, in their last meeting on Apr. 14, 2019, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Panthers started off strong, securing the doubles point with 6-1 wins on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts from Harri Proudfoot/Caro and Olivia Fain/Daisy Phillips. In singles action, Reghan Lynch, Claudia Toledo, Phillips, Caro, and Fain picked up victories over their opponents to seal the Panthers' victory.
Scouting Valparaiso
Valparaiso is 5-8 (0-0 MVC), earning their first win of the season on Feb. 7 over Ferris State after kicking the season off with losses to Mid-American Conference foes Ball State and Western Michigan. Valparaiso snapped a five-match drought with a 7-0 sweep of Wayne State on Feb. 28, going on to edge out Northern Illinois, 4-3, and topple Chicago State, 7-0, and Oakland, 6-1. Valparaiso's four-match win streak was snapped by Butler on Mar. 27.
Leading Valparaiso is sophomore Olivia Czerwonka with a 7-6 (0-0 MVC) record, primarily from the No. 2 court. Freshman Mia Bertino and senior Claire Czerwonka both have 5-8 (0-0 MVC) records primarily from the No. 4 and No. 1 courts, respectively. Sophomore Demi Jhaveri is 5-7 (0-0 MVC) on the No. 6 court.
