UNI women’s tennis falls 6-1 despite Sudsaard's comeback win

OMAHA, Neb. — The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team fell 6-1 to the Omaha Mavericks on Saturday evening. With the loss, the Panthers move to 1-6 overall on the season.
Omaha secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. At No. 1 doubles, Nina Wiese and Katelynn Kock defeated Andjela Raznatovic and Lucia Schuknecht, 6-2. Jacqueline Pearsall and Shelby Smith topped Yangjiaxin Li and Abbie Peterson, 6-1, at No. 2. The No. 3 doubles match featuring Khayli Buckels and Summer Shannon against Kayla Santosa and Kanyanut Sudsaard went unfinished at 4-3.
In singles play, Omaha claimed five of six courts in straight sets, but UNI secured its lone win in No. 6 singles.
Kanyanut Sudsaard delivered a gritty comeback victory over Grace Greenwald, rallying from a first-set loss to win 1-6, 7-6 (1), 11-9. Sudsaard controlled the tiebreak in the second set before edging out a tightly contested super tiebreak to secure the Panthers' only point of the match.
At the top of the lineup, Khayli Buckels defeated Andjela Raznatovic, 6-2, 6-1. Nina Wiese earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lucia Schuknecht at No. 2, while Katelynn Kock posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Yangjiaxin Li at No. 3. Jacqueline Pearsall topped Andrea Noa Galin, 6-4, 6-3, and Shelby Smith claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kayla Santosa to round out singles action.

The Panthers travel in Vernillion, S.D., to face Wyoming on February 21.
