Women’s tennis drops a pair of matches on the road

VERMILLION, S.D. — The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team competed in a pair of matches over the weekend in Vermillion, South Dakota, falling 4-0 to Wyoming and 4-3 to South Dakota
UNI opened the weekend against Wyoming, where the Cowgirls secured the doubles point with wins at all three positions.
At No. 1 doubles, Andjela Raznatovic and Lucia Scheknecht battled, but fell 6-4 to Violetta Borodina and Silver Bijsma. Wyoming added wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the early 1-0 lead.
In singles play, Wyoming clinched the match with three completed victories. Silver Bijlsma defeated Yangjiaxin Li at No. 2 (6-0, 6-1), while Violetta Borodina topped Andrea Noa Galin at No. 3 (6-3, 6-0). Serina Abriola secured the fourth point with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Sedina Begic at No. 6.
Three additional singles matches went unfinished after Wyoming clinched the team result, finalizing the 4-0 decision.
On Sunday, the Panthers returned to the court against South Dakota in a tightly contested match that came down to the final points.
South Dakota claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Kayla Santosa and Kanyanut Sudsaard earned UNI's lone doubles victory at No. 3 with a 7-5 decision.
In singles play, UNI won three matches but came up just short in the 4-3 loss. Andrea Noa Galin recorded a straight-set win at No. 4, while Kayla Santosa rallied for a three-set victory at No. 5, defeating Ava Doddridge 1-6, 6-0, 7-6.
Abbie Peterson added another point at No. 6 with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Natal Alves De Lima. Despite the strong effort in singles, South Dakota secured the remaining points needed to earn the 4-3 team victory.

The Panthers return to the Black Hawk Tennis Center to face Milwaukee on Feb. 27.
