Panthers Get First Win of the Season Over Omaha 183-114

Cedar Falls, IA - The UNI swimming and diving team got their first win of the season as they took on Nebraska-Omaha. In the last home meet of the season, the Panthers beat the Mavericks 183-114. With the win, UNI moves to 1-3 on the season.
Saturday marked both the final home meet of the season for the Panthers and the last home meet for seniors Emma Baertlein, Olivia Crouse, Anika Lillegard-Bouton, Jayden Lovell, Natalie Nelson, and Anna Wall.
"We really tried to honor our seniors with our efforts today," said Head Coach Nick Lakin. "This year has been so emotionally and physically demanding and they have set the standard for the group and helped everyone get up when we were down. They are an outstanding group of young women who have excelled in the class and the pool and we look forward to all they will do when they leave here. Now we just want to press forward towards our championship season and have them lead the way."
Seniors with strong performances in their final home meet include wins from Lillegard-Bouton in the 500 Free (5:16.50), and Lovell in the 1-meter Dive (239.47) and the 3-meter Dive (245.40). Baertlein had a second place finish in the 200 Fly (2:18.44) while Crouse took third in the 100 Breast (1:10.81) and the 200 Breast (2:30.72).
Freshman Amber Finke also had a big day for UNI including four first place finishes. She grabbed first place wins in the 100 Back (57.55), the 200 Back (2:04.74), and the 200 IM (2:12.27). Finke was also on the first place 200 Medley Relay.
The Panthers grabbed 13 first place finishes on the day, including the wins from Lillegard-Bouton, Lovell, and Finke. Other top finishes for UNI came from the 200 Medley Relay (1:49.14), Lily Ernst in the 400 IM (4:45.35), Natalia Verastegui in the 200 Free (1.57.26), Sydney Hall in the 200 Fly (2:10.18), Lauren Havertape in the 50 Free (24.77), Scout Bergwall in the 100 Fly (58.39), and the 200 Free Relay (1:39.24).Â
Next weekend the Panthers will travel to Vermillion, South Dakota. The Coyote Invite will be the last regular season competition for UNI before the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in April.Â
