Panthers Wrap Up Regular Season at Coyote Invite

Sioux Falls, SD - The UNI swimming and diving team wrapped up the regular season at the Coyote Invite in Sioux Falls over the weekend. The three teams competing against the Panthers were South Dakota, Iowa Central, and Iowa Lakes Community College.
Freshman Amber Finke led the team with five first place finishes, including a few relays. Lauren Havertape, Lily Ernst, Sarah Walpole, and Scout Bergwall each picked up individual wins for the Panthers.
The Invite started Friday night with Session I, which included the 200 Free Relay, 500 Free, 100 Fly, 200 IM, 50 Free, and 400 Medley Relay.
UNI had two relay teams place first and second in the 200 Free Relay. Natalia Verastagui, Payton Hall, Amber Finke, and Scout Bergwall took first (1:37.63) while second went to Clare Christensen, Madeline Webb, Lauren Havertape, and Taylor Short (1:37.87).
The Panthers swept the top three in the 100 Fly with Lauren Havertape (56.11), Lily Ernst (56.87), and Sydney Hall (57.83). Amber Finke (2:08.49) and Payton Hall (2:14.45) got first and second in the 200 IM.
In the 500 Free, Sarah Walpole took third (5:14.30), Rachelle Houlette took fourth (5:15.34), and Natalia Verastegui placed fifth (5:15.60). Taylor Short placed fourth for the Panthers in the 50 Free (24.66).
UNI also placed first and second in the 400 IM. First came from Amber Finke, Mia Savicevic, Lily Ernst, and Clare Christensen (3:55.45). In second was Payton Hall, Lauren Havertape, Sydney Hall, and Madeline Webb (3:57.64).
There were three sessions Saturday. Session II kicked off in the morning with the 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, and 100 Backstroke.
UNI picked up a second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (1:47.85) from Amber Finke, Mia Savicevic, Lauren Havertape, and Clare Christensen.
The Panthers had the top three sports in the 200 Free with Sarah Walpole in first (1:56.38), Clare Christensen in second (1:56.81), and Anika Lillegard-Bouton in third (1:57.36). Scout Bergwall picked up a win in the 100 Back with a time of 57.74.
Lily Ernst (4:35.91) took second, and Olivia Crouse took third (4:41.83) in the 400 IM. Lauren Havertape (1:09.24) and Mia Savicevic (1:09.65) placed fourth and fifth in the 100 Breast.
Diving was in the afternoon for Session III. Jayden Lovell took second in the 1-meter dive (245.35) and fourth in the 3-meter dive (245.80).
The Invite wrapped up Saturday evening with Session IV and the 1650 Freestyle, 100 IM, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, and 400 Freestyle Relay.
UNI swept the top three in the 200 Fly with Lily Ernst taking first (2:04.79), Scout Bergwall taking second (2:11.42), and Sarah Walpole in third (2:12.74).
In the 100 Free, Amber Finke took first (53.59), while Taylor Short placed second (54.26). Lauren Havertape got second in the 200 Breast (2:27.14). Anika Lillegard-Bouton took third in the 1650 Free (17:54.74).
To close out the meet, the Panthers got first and second in the 400 Free. Amber Finke, Clare Christensen, Madeline Webb, and Taylor Short took first (3:36.00); while Natalia Verastegui, Anika Lillegard-Bouton, Scout Bergwall and Sarah Walpole took second (3:40.95).
With the regular season wrapped up for the Panthers, the only thing left on the schedule is the Missouri Valley Conference Championships. The Conference meet will be April 14th through April 16th.
