UNI Women's Basketball Hosts Missouri State, SIU

UNI women's basketball host a ranked Missouri State team Friday before welcoming Southern Illinois Sunday to kick off the second half of the Missouri Valley Conference schedule. The Panthers are coming off a pair of wins over Loyola and Valparaiso last weekend and is currently 8-0 at home so far this season, including a 4-0 mark in Valley games. Missouri State leads the league at 8-1 in MVC games and 18-3 overall. Southern Illinois is 5-4 in MVC play and 13-7 overall. The Salukis open the weekend at Drake.Â
• Missouri State is 18-3 on the year with their only losses coming on the road at Oregon State, at Gonzaga and at Southern Illinois. They are outscoring their opponents by 13 points and have won four straight games. Three Bears average double figures, led by Alexa Willard with 17.3 points per game. MSU won the first match up 80-66.
• Southern Illinois is 13-7 overall but have won four of their last five games, including a 65-50 win over former MVC leader Bradley on Sunday. The Salukis are the only conference team that handed Missouri State a loss, defeating the Bears 70-68 on Jan. 17. Makenzie Silvey leads the way with 16.4 points per game. The Panthers won game one 60-57.
•The Panthers are now 8-0 at home after defeating Valparaiso 77-70, Sunday. The longest home win streak to start a season was 10 wins in 1980-81.Â
• UNI closed non-conference play with the most non-conference wins in school history (8), three wins over Power-Five Schools and an undefeated home record.Â
• Karli Rucker leads UNI at 12.8 points per game and Kam Finley is second for UNI with 10.0 PPG. Bre Gunnels leads with the team with 5.9 rebounds per game and Cynthia Wolf averages 4.9 RPG.Â
• The Panthers are ranked 12th in the NCAA in free-throw percentage at 77.2%. UNI is also 19th in the NCAA with 8.6 three-pointers made per game.Â
• UNI has played in the postseason in nine of the last 10 seasons, including an appearance in the WNIT in 2019 where the Panthers met Minnesota in the first round.
• UNI played five games against Power-Five Opponents, the most among Missouri Valley Conference teams. The Panthers went 3-2 with wins over Iowa, Iowa State and Missouri.
