UNI Closes Tom Botts Invite with Nine Event Wins

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The UNI track and field team captured nine event wins and 33 top three finishes to highlight the two-day Tom Botts Invite hosted by the University of Missouri.
Lyndsie Schinkel and Wal Khat added to their event win totals when both captured the title in the 800-meter run Saturday. Schinkel notched a new career-best time of 2:08.61 to take the win. Khat won the men's 800 with a career-best time of 1:52.51. Schinkel and Khat won the 1,500-meter run Friday night.
The men's 400-meter dash provided a dominant performance for the Panthers. UNI captured the top five spots in the event led by Evan Long who increased his lead for the top mark in the MVC with a career-best time of 47.23. Connor Blough took second, Corey Hertz was third, Sven Van Den Bergh was fourth and Bryce Newcomb finished fifth. Long, Blough and Hertz are now ranked first, second and third in the MVC respectively.
Katie Nimrod finished first in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 1:02.24 and Connor Ham won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.14.
In the relays, the UNI men's 4x100-meter relay team set a new best mark in the conference with a time of 40.45, the ninth-fastest time in school history. The UNI women finished first in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:52.32.
Other important marks included a second-place finish by Patrice Watson in the 100-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 13.85 four top-five finished in the shot up including season bests by Keegan Tritle (second, 60-feet-0), Darius King (third, 59-feet-3) and Isaac Holtz (58-feet-1). Cameron Cantrall moved into fourth in the MVC in the high jump with a leap of 6-feet-6.75.
The Panthers are back in action next week at the Drake Relays in Des Moines. The event begins Wednesday with multi-event athletes and runs through Saturday.
