
UNI Softball Swept by Wisconsin

MADISON, Wisconsin – UNI softball was swept by the Wisconsin Badgers on Tuesday in Madison, Wisconsin.
Northern Iowa at Wisconsin | Final Score – L, 6-1
Emma Olejniczak was the UNI starter in game one against Wisconsin and held the Badgers to one run over the first four innings before running into trouble in the fifth. Olejniczak allowed five earned runs in four and a third innings while striking out three and walking two.
Erica Oler pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing one run on one hit and three walks. Brooke Craig pitched a scoreless inning and did not walk a batter or allow a hit.
The offense struggled in game one against Wisconsin, as the Panthers were held hitless until the top of the sixth inning. Olivia Brooks was able to reach base on a single, but not much came out of it, as Brooks failed to come around to score.
In the top of the seventh inning, UNI was finally able to score, as Adara Opiola lined a shot over the right field fence for her third home run of the season. Courtney Krodinger followed with a walk and Kamryn Shaffer singled into right field but neither player reached home plate.

Jaclyn Spencer got the start in game two but allowed 9 runs (five earned) in five innings against Wisconsin, while being on the losing end. Spencer struck out five batters but allowed 11 hits and two long balls.
Hannah Kelley allowed two runs on a home run in her third of an inning on the mound.
Sammey Bunch and Brooks both finished with two hits apiece. Bunch had two extra-base hits and also drove in two runs. Opiola walked twice and Ally Johnson singled in the top of the fourth for her first-career base hit.
The UNI offense left seven runners on base, which was two more than Wisconsin. The Panthers had the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the fifth but were unable to bring a run in.
UP NEXT –
The Panthers return home to Cedar Falls to face off against the Evansville Purple Aces on Saturday and Sunday. UNI will play a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, and a 11:00 a.m. single game on Sunday.
