Erica Oler came on in relief and allowed four runs on six hits in three and a third innings on the mound. Emma Olejniczak allowed two runs (one earned) and picked up the pitching loss in the eight-inning game.
Sammey Bunch and Olivia Brooks both finished with multiple hits for the Panthers. Bunch scored two runs and also drove in a pair. Ashley Chesser lined a home run to center for her second of the season. Chesser now has ten RBIs on the year, joining Bunch and Brittney Krodinger as the only Panthers with ten or more RBIs.
The Panthers scored first with two runs in the top of the first inning. Bunch doubled to center and Courtney Krodinger added a sacrifice fly to give UNI the early lead. The Panthers added two more in the top of the second inning on a B. Krodinger sacrifice fly and a Bunch double to left.
Chesser homered in the top of the fifth to give UNI a 7-4 lead, but after making it an 8-4 game, the Fighting Illini were able to claw back into it and tied the game up 8-8 in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Panthers scored a run in the top of the eight on a Brooks single, but Olejniczak allowed two runs in the bottom of the frame to seal the win for Illinois.
Northern Iowa vs. Tulsa | Final Score – W, 10-4
Hannah Kelley was the UNI starter in game two against the Golden Hurricane. Kelley pitched all seven innings while allowing four runs on nine hits and three walks. Kelley also struck out three batters, which tied her career-high for one start.
Bunch and Brooks both finished with multiple hits, for the second time on Friday. Bunch scored three runs and drove in two, while launching a home run to left field. Chesser scored two runs while also adding a home run of her own. Kelley was able to help her own cause as she drove in two runs in the final frame of the game.
The Panthers captured the early lead on a Bunch two-run jack to left field. The long ball was the fourth of the season for Bunch, who leads the team in home runs. Tulsa bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the first.
Brooks lined a single into right to re-give UNI the lead in the top of the third. Bunch came around to score on Brooks' base knock. After Tulsa tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, the Panthers added two runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Brooks and a wild pitch that allowed Bunch to score.
In the top of the sixth inning Chesser lined a home run to right center field for her third long ball of the year. Chesser and Bunch are the only Panthers with multiple home runs in 2019.
The Panthers were able to separate themselves in the top of the seventh with a four-run inning. After five straight walks to leadoff the inning, and a wild pitch, UNI extended the lead to 8-3. Kelley followed with a two-run single into left field that gave the Panthers a big lead.
Kelley was able to hold Tulsa to one run over the final three innings to pick up her second pitching victory on the season. Kelley is tied for first on the team with two wins and leads the Panthers with a 3.00 ERA.
