UNI Flexes Muscles at Jack Jennett Open

DAY 2 RESULTS
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The final day of competition at the Jack Jennett Open concluded on Friday, with the University of Northern Iowa track and field program winning 13 events to cap the successful two-day event.
The Panthers return to the UNI-Dome on Saturday for the Mark Messersmith Invitational. Action begins with field events starting at 10 a.m., and track events beginning at 12:30 p.m. For more information on the meet, visit here.
Friday's Jack Jennett began by wrapping up the men's heptathlon, with UNI's Austin Heitland taking second place with an overall score of 4,789. The women held a pentathlon to kick off their competition at the Jack Jennett, as UNI's Lauren Frederick posted a score of 3,545 to earn first overall. Brooke Lorenz was not far behind with a score of 3.402 to finish third in the women's pentathlon.
The Panther men and women swept the shot put, with Thomas Yezek (58-02.50) and Allison Griffin (46-08.75) dominating the field on Friday. Yezek's mark of 58-02.50 was a collegiate-best and tops all other Panthers this season. Sarah Pate won in the weight throw to round out the success for the Panther throwers, after taking first with a mark of 61-06.25.
The UNI women moved on to take three more field events in the pentathlon high jump, high jump and triple jump. Chaley Rath (5-04.50) won the pentathlon high jump, while Jaylynn Sharp (5-01.00) and Lauren Sayles (36-01.50) took the high jump and triple jump.
Heading into action on the track, the Panther men and women each won three events as UNI continued its success late on Friday afternoon. Connor Ham (8.06) won the 60-meter hurdles, while Jacob Smith (22.11) and Corey Hertz (49.33) took the 200-meter and 400-meter. The women won in the sprints and distance, with Jasmine Blue (7.79) and Maddie Bell (25.16) winning the 60-meter and 200-meter, while Kelsey Leedy (10:30.46) outlasted the field to take the 3000-meter.
