UNI Dominates Panther Open

FINAL RESULTS
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa. – The University of Northern Iowa track and field program opened 2018 with a strong showing, as the squad won 23 of the 30 events on Saturday to dominate the Panther Open.
The Panthers took seven events in field action, while earning 16 top spots in track events. A total of 25 different Panthers earned wins on Saturday, while Isaac Holtz (weight throw, shot put), Connor Blough (400-meter dash, 4x400 relay), Maddie Bell (60-meter dash, 200-meter dash), Lauren Frederick (60-meter hurdles, 4x400 relay) and Jolissa Kriegel (400-meter dash, 4x400 relay) each won twice.
On the men's side, Isaac Holtz led the Panthers on the field after winning the weight throw (56-04.50) and shot put (56-10.25) to continue his stellar senior season. Cade Kirkpatrick and Xavior Williams joined Holtz to earn field wins as well, with Kirkpatrick taking the long jump (23-03.25) and Williams winning the high jump (6-10.75).
Moving into track action, UNI's "Connors" continued momentum for the Panthers as Connor Ham won the 60-meter hurdles (8.13) and Connor Blough won the 400-meter dash (50.17). Logan Murray (1-mile run; 4:29.76), Jordan Pingel (600-meter run; 1:20.90) Dylan Eigenberger (1000-meter run; 2:32.68) and Corey Hertz (200-meter dash; 22.10) all collected wins on Saturday, while Zack Krogmann (2:02.14) stole a win from his brother, Jeremy Krogmann (2:02.33) in the 800-meter run. In the last event of the afternoon, the relay team of Blough, Jojo Frost, Ethan Smith and Evan Long (3:19.69) took the top spot in the 4x400-meter relay.
For the women, Sarah Pate (54-10.00) came out of the gates with a victory in the weight throw, while Lauren Beauchamp leaped to a win in the pole vault (11-05.75). Allison Griffin rounded out the Panther wins for the women in field events, after earning a victory in the shot put (43-02.25).
On the track, the ladies scored their first victory of the day in the 60-meter hurdles as Lauren Frederick won (9.22). Veteran Ashley Norem took the 1000-meter run (2:58.70) for UNI to continue success, while Maddie Bell (7.87) and Jolissa Kriegel 59.79) took a pair of dashes in the 60 and 400-meter. Bell followed up win in the 60-meter dash with a victory in the 200-meter dash (25.15) to cap her stellar Panther Open.
Lucy Conroy (5:19.56) and Dianna Slight (1:36.33) continued UNI's dominance in the distance runs as Conroy took the 1-mile run and Slight earned a win in the 600-meter run. The women closed out Saturday with their final win of the afternoon in the 4x400-meter relay, with Kriegel, Frederick, Erica Loussaert and Brooke Lorenz (4:00.51) taking the event.
Up Next
The Panthers hit the road next weekend for the Jim Emmerich/Alumni Invite at South Dakota State. Action is set to begin at noon from Brookings, South Dakota.
