AUSTIN, Texas – After three days of competition at the NCAA West Preliminaries, UNI will send Brandon Carnes to compete for a shot at a national title in the 100-meter dash.

Carnes has qualified for the 100-meter dash twice before, and will make a third run at the event in Eugene, Oregon. The final rounds of the championship are set for June 7-10.

Carnes sealed a spot in today's 200-meter dash quarterfinals by setting a school and Missouri Valley Conference record in the event on Friday, but he pulled up early in the race and was not able to advance to Oregon.

Carnes took second in his 200-meter dash heat in 20.25 seconds with 1.7 m/s wind aid to break his own school record set earlier this year (20.50 seconds). The time also sets a new conference standing, breaking the 20.36-second record set by Dwight Williams of Indiana State in 1984.

Jon Rus finished 19^th in the quarterfinals of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.16 seconds. (+2.5 m/s wind).

Four Panthers competed in the men's discus. Isaac Holtz led the way for UNI, taking 26^th with a throw of 176 feet, 3 inches. Brad Walski (174 feet, 2 inches), Tom Yezez (170 feet, 1 inch) and Evan Colfack (169 feet, 9 inches) finished 31^st, 34^th and 35^th, respectively.
