Panthers Drop Series Against Loyola

CHICAGO - The University of Northern Iowa lost its final battle of a three-game series against the Loyola Ramblers on Sunday, 1-0.

Loyola scored the lone run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth that started with a walk to Shannon McGee. McGee moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a an Ashley Parenti RBI single to shortstop.

UNI attempted to stage a two-out rally in the top of the seventh when Anna Varriano reached on a single to third. Courtney Krodinger pinch ran for Varriano and moved into scoring position on a single by Kennedy Bailey. However, Loyola held the Panthers off the board when Sammey Bunch grounded out to second to end it.

UNI's starting pitcher Jaclyn Spencer held the Ramblers to three hits and struck out seven but took the loss and fell to 11-7 on the season.

The Panthers are 26-17 overall and 14-6 in league play.

Next up for UNI is a single game against Drake on April 25 at 6 p.m. in Cedar Falls. The make-up against Iowa State will be on April 26 at 4 p.m. in Ames.
