Softball Takes Two from Bradley

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - After relocating to the UNI-Dome, the University of Northern Iowa softball team took both games of a doubleheader against the Bradley Braves on Friday. The Panthers took game one in walk-off fashion, 1-0. UNI finished the day by holding Bradley to only three hits in a 5-0 win.
UNI improves to 22-15 overall and 10-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference . Bradley drops to 19-22 overall and a record of 5-9 in conference play.
GAME ONE
With both teams defensive skills shining, neither side was able to score any runs for the majority of the game. UNI starter Jaclyn Spencer tossed a four-hit shutout. Spencer improves her record to 9-6 and lowers her ERA to 2.02.
It was a family affair in the bottom of the seventh inning that led the Panthers to their win. Courtney Krodinger came in as a pinch runner for Kennedy Bailey, who reached on a single. Courtney Krodinger then stole second base as Tianna Drahn was at bat. Drahn then put down a sacrifice bun to move Krodinger to third base. Brittney Krodinger then lasered a shot down the left field line to plate her sister and give UNI the walk-off victory, 1-0.
GAME TWO
Alyssa Buchanan recorded a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts as the Panthers tallied a 5-0 win. The win gave Buchanan a team-leading ERA of 1.75 and a 9-1 record for the season.
UNI's shining star came in the bottom of the fourth when Bailey Lange hit a homer over the fence, bringing in Macey Wolfe and Kennedy Bailey with her, to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. The home run would be Lange's seventh for the season.
Sammey Bunch and Tianna Drahn would follow up and each land on base. Buchanan would be up at bat with Bunch on third and Drahn at second. Buchanan would ground out Bradley's shortstop but it would be enough to let Bunch score a run. Brittney Krodinger would hit a single and bring in Drahn to give the Panthers a 5-0 lead.
The Panthers are scheduled to wrap up the three-game series against Bradley on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex.
