CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving squad scored a 189-111 victory over the visiting Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks at the Glen F. Henry Pool on Saturday.
Crystal Florman narrowly grabbed first-place in the 100 butterfly, swimming a time of fifty-seven seconds and forty-nine hundredths of a second. Ross nabbed a third-place finish, timing in at 59.28.
Kelsey Ostrowski led the Panthers in the 200 butterfly, timing in at 2:10.19.
Ross and Olivia Knowles would take first and third in the 100 breaststroke, timing in at 1:05.53 and 1:09.87 respectively.
Katie Taylor and Madison Rinaldi would take first and second-places in the 100 backstroke. Taylor swam a 55.99, while Rinaldi followed at 59.10. Taylor was nearly 20 seconds ahead of her competition in the 400 IM, swimming a 4:26.72 for first-place. Rinaldi swam a 4:44.96 for third-place. Taylor swam into first-place in the 200 breaststroke, timing in at 2:24.24.
Rinaldi was nearly three seconds ahead of Nebraska-Omaha's Hilary Schieffer, swimming a 2:09.53 in the 200 backstroke. Ostrowski swam a 2:13.31 for third-place.
Kylie Engstrom and Anika Lillegard-Bouton led the Panthers in the distances races this afternoon. In the 1650 freestyle, Engstrom swam into first-place with a time of 17:50.10. Lillegard-Bouton would follow, swimming a 18:10.29 for second-place. Engstrom was a second faster than Nebraska-Omaha's Rachel Morrow, timing in at 5:14.08 for first in the 500 freestyle. Lillegard-Bouton swam into third-place, swimming a 5:18.44.
Molly Lembezeder and Florman took first and second in the 100 freestyle. Lembezeder timed in at 51.88, while Florman timed in at 52.69. Lemebezeder was a full three seconds ahead of Nebraska-Omaha's Morrow, swimming a 1:54.31 for first-place in the 200 freestyle. Maya Appleton would take third, timing in at 1:57.93.
Izzy Bunchek led the pack in the 1-meter diving, scoring a 245. Deuso and Brummel would take third and fourth places, diving a 228.25 and 226.90 respectively. In the 3-meter diving well, Deuso led the Panthers in second-place. Deuso would dive a 243.10, with Bunchek scored 238.45 for third-place.
Florman narrowly missed first-place in the 50 freestyle, timing in at 24.38.
The Panthers would sweep both the relay events. In the 200 medley relay, Taylor, Knowles, Ross and Lembezeder would be a full three seconds ahead of Nebraska-Omaha. The Panthers timed in at 1:47.78. Ross, Florman, Appleton and Lembezeder were two seconds ahead of Nebraska-Omaha in the 400 freestyle relay, timing in at 3:33.04 for first-place.
"Our young women continue to make improvements and focus on the details that we need to be successful as the season progresses," UNI head coach Nick Lakin said. "Our distance group had a great day in the 1650 going 1-2 with Kylie and Annika. Jordan and Meredith had great swims as well and get better every time they hit the pool. Our 400 IM group really battled all the way through that event to close the meet. All four put themselves in solid position heading into Kansas in a couple weeks. Izzy had quite the dual in the 1 meter diving and came out on top and Alyssa dove well on the 3 meter. Molly and Crystal had some really solid swims. It was a great effort all around and we are all looking forward to a little rest and seeing what we can do at Kansas."
