Both Knodle and Carnes will enter the NCAA Championships with four individual MVC titles under their belt from the 2016 season after Carnes defended his titles in the 60 and 200 meter dashes and Knodle won the pentathlon and the 60 meter hurdles. Carnes is ranked No. 12 in the country this season in the 60 meter dash, setting a new UNI and MVC all-time record with his personal-best time of 6.64. After winning the 60 and 200 meter dashes at the MVC Indoor Championships in February, he became the first athlete in Valley history to three-peat in both the 60 and 200 while also becoming the most decorated sprinter in UNI history with the most individual conference titles with 10 between indoor and outdoor seasons.
Knodle's wins in the pentathlon and 60 meter hurdles at this year's conference championship not only set new MVC meet records, but also climbed to the top of the UNI records as well.
