BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Northern Iowa track and field program wrapped up competition at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships today in Birmingham, Ala. as Paige Knodle took on the pentathlon and Brandon Carnes competed in the 60 meter dash, both earning second-team All-America.

Carnes took part in the 60 meter dash semifinal race today, finishing with another fast time of 6.66. Carnes wrapped up his indoor season as one of the most decorated athletes to come through UNI, advancing his individual MVC title total to 10 after his 60 and 200 meter dash wins. He also set a new all-time Valley record in the 60, running a PR time of 6.64.

In the pentathlon, Knodle finished with 3,912 total points, placing 13th overall. She opened the day with a time of 8.42 in the 60 meter hurdles, placing her eighth in the field. She followed it up with marks of 5-2.50 in the high jump and 34-7.50 in the shot put.

She rounded out her day with an eighth place finish overall in the long jump with a leap of 18-5-.25 along with a fifth place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.95. Knodle broke two school records on the way to her pentathlon and hurdle titles at the Valley championships, also setting MVC records in both

UNI will return to action when they open outdoor competition at the Emporia State Spring Open. The meet will take place on March 26.
