UNI Takes Game Three and Series Over Aces, 2-1

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Northern Iowa softball team earned a series-clinching win over Evansville on Saturday, downing the Aces 2-1 in a low-scoring ballgame. The Panthers (24-9, 4-2 MVC) recorded four hits while Evansville had just three in a pitchers duel between Chelsea Ross and the Aces' Morgan Florey.

Ross shutout streak against the Aces ended in the opening inning as she surrendered her first run on a solo home run since the third inning of a 10-2 win over Evansville in 2014. The senior found her groove shortly after as she kept the Aces off the board for the remainder of the game, striking out a career-high 12 batters in seven innings of work.

UNI recovered quickly and scored all the runs they would need in the following inning, moving base runners around to score two in the inning and take a 2-1 lead. After a Kristin Lock single and Kennedy Bailey walk, Alyssa Buchanan sent one down the right field line, driving in Lock for her 19^th RBI of the season. Buchanan was key in the next run that would score, stealing second and forcing an errant throw from Evansville's catcher that ended up in center field and scored Bailey from third.

The Panthers will return home on Saturday for their Robinson-Dresser home opener against Indiana State, beginning with a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
