Carnes Breaks UNI And MVC Record At Nebraska Invite

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Junior Brandon Carnes broke the UNI record in the 60 meter dash on Saturday afternoon at the Nebraska Invitational, highlighting a day full of personal-records.
Carnes, who won back-to-back MVC Athlete of the Week honors, ran the fastest time in the preliminary race, posting a personal-best and school record time of 6.64. His time of 6.64 broke his previous UNI record of 6.69 and also set a new MVC record, along with ranking him No. 9 in the country.
The Bradenton, Fla. native followed it up with another strong performance in the 200 meter dash, finishing fourth with a personal-best time of 21.30. It moved him into second all-time as a Panther, beating his previous PR of 21.48.
The men's 4X400 meter relay team also ran a season-best time at the Nebraska Invite, placing sixth overall. The team of Corey Hertz, Evan Long, Brett McCalla and Austin Heitland ran a time of 3:16.53 to keep them ranked in the top-five in the MVC.
In Indiana at the Meyo Invitational, the Panthers finished with PRs across the board, including a huge 800 meter performance by Amber Clock. Clock finished fourth overall out of 71 runners, coming in with a time of 2:07.94, keeping her second all-time at UNI and ranked first in the Valley.
In the men's 800 meters, Dylan Eigenberger ran a career-best for the second week in a row, finishing with a time of 1:52.70. Freshman Luke Johnston also ran an improved time in the event, coming away with a PR of 1:53.45.
Brette Correy and Ashley Norem both scored career-bests in the women's mile, finishing with times of 4:55.56 and 4:58.72 with Correy's time ranking third all-time at UNI. Continuing the trend of PRs, Bailey Wetherell also finished with a personal-best in the men's mile, running in at 4:18.02.
Moving into the distance races, Kelsey Kirchoff turned in a top-30 finish in the 3,000 meters, crossing the finish line with a personal-best time of 9:50.29. It ranks her fourth all-time as a Panther and puts her in the top-10 in the MVC this season.
The Panthers will look to continue with momentum into next weekend as they compete in the Tyson Invitational and the Iowa State Classic from Feb. 12-13.
