Panthers To Compete At Iowa State Classic

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa track and field program is set to send a full squad to the Iowa State Classic this weekend as they take on some of the best programs in the country. The meet is set to run Feb. 12-13 at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames.
UNI heads into the weekend with 26 student-athletes ranked in the top-eight in their event in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Panthers will be competing against MVC foe Drake at the Iowa State Classic, along with teams from the Big 12, Big 10, SEC and AAC.
The Panthers are coming off one its best performances of the season at the Nebraska and Meyo Invitationals where they posted personal-bests and scored school records.
UNI kicked off last weekend with a huge performance from junior Brandon Carnes as he went on to set two personal-bests at the Nebraska Invitational. The Bradenton, Fla. native broke the UNI and MVC record in the 60 meter dash, running a time of 6.64. It broke his previous record of 6.69 and ranks him No. 9 in the country entering the Iowa State Classic.
He followed it up with a career-best in the 200 meter dash, finishing with a time of 21.30 to put him at No. 2 all-time at UNI and at the top of the MVC. Carnes isn't the only Panther ranked in the top-five in the Valley in the 200 meters. He is joined by true freshman Corey Hertz who currently sits at No. 3 in the Valley with a converted time of 21.65.
The middle-distance and distance runners shined for the Panthers at the Meyo Invitational, with three athletes landing on UNI's all-time list.
Amber Clock started the Panthers off in the 800 meters, coming in with a PR time of 2:07.94 to put her first in the Valley and keep her second all-time at UNI. In the men's race, Dylan Eigenberger and Luke Johnston both recorded career bests with times of 1:52.70 and 1:53.45, landing Eigenberger fourth in the MVC.
In the women's mile, Brette Correy scored a personal-best time at the Meyo Invitational, coming across the finish line in 4:55.56. Her time ranks her third all-time at UNI and in the top-10 in the Valley. She also sits in the top-five in the conference in the women's 800 meters, running a time of 2:13.88 to land at No. 3 in the Valley.
Kelsey Kirchoff also finished the Meyo Invite with a top-30 finish in the women's 3,000 meter race, posting a PR time of 9:50.20 to rank her fourth all-time as a Panther.
After focusing last weekend on the track, Panther fans will see an abundance of action in the field this weekend, with the return of the throws and jumps crew.
Shawn Koch, Steven Addison and Weston Riesselman are currently ranked third, seventh and eighth in the Valley in the long jump while Koch is also second in the Valley in the triple jump. In the high jump, the Panthers have a pair of Panthers taking over the top-10, with Kassidy Sharp ranked fourth and Chaley Rath sitting at No. 6.
Jamie Lindstrom will take on the Iowa State Classic ranked in the Valley in both the weight throw (4th) and shot put (6th) while on the men's side, Isaac Holtz and Brad Walski are UNI's top-ranked throwers. Holtz is ranked fourth in the conference in the shot put while Walski comes in at No. 7 in the weight throw.
