UNI is coming off a strong team showing at the Panther Open on Saturday, Jan. 16 where the Panthers saw personal-bests and multiple individual titles won. UNI track and field fans got to see a mixture of experience and youth on the track in the UNI-Dome over the weekend, with 14 newcomers donning the Purple and Old Gold for the first time.
Shawn Koch got things started for the Panthers, winning both the triple jump (48-7.50) and the long jump (24-0.75). His marks ranked him second in the Missouri Valley this season, with his long jump performance scoring an indoor personal-best for the junior.
The Panthers also picked up a pair of wins in the men's and women's high jumps, with Jayvon Matthews and Kassidy Sharp walking away victorious. Matthews finished the meet with a new personal-best height of 6-4.00, ranking him in the top-10 in the conference.
UNI currently has seven throwers ranked in the top-10 in the Valley between the men's and women's programs, with Jamie Lindstrom and Brad Walski leading the way. Both Lindstrom and Walski won the weight throw and shot put competitions at the Panther Open, with Walski jumping into the top-6 in the Valley in both events.
On the track, the Panthers have a pair of student-athletes leading the conference in the sprints, with Brandon Carnes ranked first in the 60 meter dash and true freshman Corey Hertz taking the No. 1 spot in the 200 meters. Hertz won the 200 meter dash at the Panther Open, coming in with a personal-best time of 22.72.

On the women's side, Paige Knodle currently holds the third fastest time in the conference, running a time of 8.60 at the SDSU Holiday Open in December.
