Strong Team Performance Propels UNI At Big 4 Duals

FINAL RESULTS
AMES, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa track and field team competed in the Big 4 Duals today, coming away with multiple individual and dual wins with the UNI men picking up a dual win over Drake and the women defeating Iowa and the Bulldogs.
Senior Paige Knodle kicked off the meet by turning in a career-best in the 60 meter hurdles, running a time of 8.49 in the preliminary race to qualify for the finals and keep her second all-time at UNI. Knodle won the event with a time of 8.52 in the finals with teammate Rachel Peth taking fourth place with a season-best time of 8.82.
Jon Rus (8.14), two-sport athlete Daurice Fountain (8.17) and Cole Phillips (8.21) all qualified for the finals in the men's 60 meter hurdles. Rus picked up a third place finish, while Fountain and Phillips finished right behind him in fourth and fifth.
Brandon Carnes continued to blaze through the competition in the 60 meter dash, winning both the preliminary and the final races. He finished with a time of 6.70 in the finals for the win with freshman Tanner Dunkin placing fifth with a PR time of 7.03. Carnes also won the 200 meters with a fast time of 21.53 to complete his two-win day.
The Panther middle distance crews turned in strong performances in the 800 meters, with Wade and Jordan Pingel placing second and third in the men's race and Amber Clock walking away with a third place finish for the women. Wade ran a season-best time of 1:54.56 while Jordan scored a personal-best of 1:54.80.
UNI had a pair of top-five finishers in the men's and women's 3,000 meter races, both finishing with career-best times. Kelsey Kirchoff placed fifth overall in the women's race with a time of 9:58.79 while Bunch finished in fourth with a time of 8:30.83.
The Panthers took first through third in the women's weight throw, with Jamie Lindstrom picking up a win and Sarah Pate and Chloe Schmidt rounding out the top-three. Lindstrom and Schmidt also placed well in the women's shot put, with Lindstrom grabbing a second place finish with a toss of 48-5.25 and Schmidt coming in third with a mark of 40-10.50.
Brad Walski walked away victorious in the men's weight throw for the second consecutive week, finishing with a personal-best throw of 59-10.50. Isaac Holtz also picked up two top-five finishes in the men's throwing events, placing third in the weight throw and third in the shot put with a PR of 53-1.75.
Anna Loken won her first event as a Panther at the Big 4 Duals, placing first overall in the pole vault. She finished with a season-best height of 11-7.75. Charles Fenner came away from the men's competition in second place, notching a season-best mark of 15-1.00.
The Panthers will return to action when they host two meets on Jan. 29 and Jan. 30. The Jack Jennett Invite, which will draw one of the most talented multi-event athletes in the country, will take place in the UNI-Dome on Jan. 29 while the Mark Messersmith Invitational will run on Jan. 30.
