Panthers Wrap Up Play at UNI Invite

WATERLOO, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team wrapped up action today at the 2013 UNI Invitational held at Byrnes Park.
UNI junior transfer Erica Medlin reached the Purple Draw singles final but dropped a three-set decision to Saint Louis University's Aspen Cervin, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (4).
UNI freshman Astrid Santos posted a fifth-place finish in the Purple Draw as well as she scored a 6-1, 3-1 (ret.) win over Iowa State's Ana Gasparovic on Sunday.
A pair of Panther freshmen dueled in the Gold Draw for fifth place as Elvira Lopez held off Jieke Stroobant, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8).
Senior Krissy Lankelma battled SLU's Madie Cook in the third-place match. Lankelma and Cook was the final match to finish on Sunday with Lankelma taking third place honors in a final set tiebreaker, 10-8.
Freshman Sydney Wolfe notched a sixth-place finish in the UNI Draw as she fell to Illinois State's Heather Nisbet, 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Jordyn Kearney earned a ninth-place tally in the UNI Draw with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over South Dakota's Nina Barudzic.
UNI's top doubles team of Medlin and Stroobant placed fourth in the Purple Draw as they fell to Illinois State's Phylis Tigges and Sierra Stone, 8-5.
The Panthers' duo of Lankelma and Lopez earned a ninth-place finish in the Gold Draw with an 8-3 win on Sunday over Bradley's Ari Dechter and Meredith McDonagh.
Wolfe and Kearney teamed up for a sixth-place finish in the Gold Draw after dropping an 8-5 match to South Dakota's Milica Pavlovic and Yamini Reddy.
UNI freshman Astrid Santos was paired up with South Dakota's Ana Vujosevic and the duo tallied a fifth-place finish in the Panther Draw with an 8-6 victory over St. Catherine's Meredith Holt and Angie Lorenzen.
