UNI women's tennis opens season at Gopher Invite

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The UNI women's tennis team wrapped up competition at the Gopher Invitational this weekend battling through three days of singles and doubles action against strong regional opponents. While the Panthers faced tough challenges throughout the tournament, Sophomore Abbie Peterson highlighted the weekend with a hard fought singles victory.
On Friday, doubles pairings Yangjiaxin Li/Kanyanut Sudsaard and Andjela Raznatovic/Abbie Peterson each dropped two matches, while Lasya Mylavarapu/Sedina Begic fell to a strong Marquette duo. In singles, Raznatovic, Peterson, Begic, Mylavarapu, Sudsaard, Li, and Meeky all fell short in their opening matches.
Saturday saw Peterson earn UNI's lone singles victory of the weekend, defeating Aiyana Abott (Marquette) 6-4, 0-6, 10-1. Sudsaard, Raznatovic, Li, Meeky, Begic and Mylavarapu each fell in straight sets to opponents. In doubles, Li/Raznatovic, Sudsaard/Peterson, and Mylavarapu/Meeky each dropped two matches.
On Sunday, Raznatovic paired with Sudsaard in doubles but fell short to Lily Olson and Ingrid Forsberg (St. Thomas), 6-3 while Mylavarapu and Begic were defeated by Elana Duva and Maria Poon (Marquette), 6-3. In singles, Li, Peterson, and Begic each closed the weekend with losses in straight sets.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will travel to Normal, Illinois to compete in the Redbird invite on September 26-28.
