Hosch Sets UNI School Record, Facility Record at Musco Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Northern Iowa's Holli Hosch ran a blistering 2:06.84 in the women's 800 meter dash at the Musco Invitational Saturday evening, setting a new UNI school record as well as breaking the facility record at the University of Iowa's home track.
The previous facility record was set in 1987 by Suzy Favor, who clocked in at 2:07.05. Emily Montgomery held the UNI school record, set in 1995 when she ran a 2:08.39.
As of Saturday evening, Hosch's time puts her in the top 25 nationally and in the top 15 in the West region. Her time also puts her atop the Valley standings.
In the 400 meters, the Panthers took five of the top eight spots with Olimpia Nowak finishing in third (56.32), Michaela Brungardt in fourth (56.51), Ellen Kindelsperger in sixth (57.23), Molly Cashman in seventh (57.39) and Claire Johannesen in eighth (57.21).
In the 100-meter dash, Lindsay Gierke crossed in a season-best time of 12.26.
Emily McCarthy clocked in a season-best in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 1:03.73 for fifth place.
The quartet of Dani Stipe, Gierke, Kindelsperger, and Jamie Wieck earned runner-up honors in the 4x100 meter relay, clocking in at 47.58. Kindelsperger, Hosch, Brungardt and Sam Cameron took third place in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:50.60.
Courtney Landers also earned a third place finish in the women's hammer throw, tossing 171-02. Traci Harms followed Landers with a fourth place finish, heaving 168-07.
Emily Prinsen recorded a season-best javelin throw, tossing 136-04 to finish in third place.
On the men's side, Giorgio Giurdanella took the top spot in the 200 meters, finishing in a season-best time of 21.35.
Jordan Cornilsen finished in sixth, clocking in at 48.42.
Greg Offerman also improved upon his season-best time in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 52.15, also taking third place.
Jordan Williams took runner-up honors in the men's discus, heaving 165-00. Justin Romero finished in fourth with a toss of 146-06.
Alvin Cole, Giurdanella, Collins and Rupert Bannerman-Thompson finishing in third place in the 4x100 meter relay, finishing in 40.76.
The Panthers return to action next weekend, taking part in the Central Open May 7 in Pella, Iowa.
