Nowak Sits 13th in Heptathlon After Day One

EUGENE, Ore. - University of Northern Iowa's Olimpia Nowak sits in 13th place after the first four events in the women's heptathlon at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Eugene, Ore.
Nowak racked up 3,238 points through four events, just six points behind the 12th-place spot held by Nebraska's Megan Wheatley.
Nowak opened the day with a 100-meter hurdle time of 14.21 to pick up 949 points. The sophomore then cleared 5-04 ¼ in the high jump to earn another 771 points. Nowak heaved 39-01 ¼ in the shot put for 656 points followed by a career-best 200-meter dash run of 25.27 to finish the day.
Alabama's Chealsea Taylor leads the field after the first day with 3,619 points.
Fellow Panther Holli Hosch wrapped up her record-breaking season in the 800 meters, clocking in the 20th-fastest semi-final time at 2:10.18. Only the top eight times advance to the final round.
Nowak will return to Oregon's historic Hayward Field to wrap-up competition in the women's heptathlon tomorrow beginning at 3:45 p.m. CST with the long jump.
