Panthers Post School Record Performances at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – A number of University of Northern Iowa track and field athletes found a place in the record books Friday at the 101st Drake Relays. Jenna Wexter tied the school record in the pole vault while the women's 4x400 meter relay team and the distance medley relay crew each clocked in times that rank in the top five in school history.
Wexter tied the school record in the pole vault, clearing 12-07 ½ to take fourth place honors. Wexter shares the record with Kayleen Popp who also cleared 12-07 ½ in 2004. Wexter also broke Popp's indoor vault record earlier this season, clearing 12-08.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team also finds themselves in the UNI record books, recording the school's third-fastest relay time. The quartet of Ellen Kindelsperger, Holli Hosch, Michaela Brungardt and Sam Cameron clocked in at 3:41.04, the sixth-fastest prelim time, to advance to the finals tomorrow.
The distance medley relay crew also found a spot in the record books, clocking in the fifth-fastest time in school history. Caedryn Schrunk clocked in at 11:54.06, finishing in 12th place.
Justin Romero finished seventh in the in the men's shot put, heaving a season-best 55-00 ¾.
The Panthers resume action at the Drake Relays Saturday morning.
