Panthers Come Up Short to North Dakota, 171-115

GRAND FORKS, S.D. - The University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving team fell to the University of North Dakota, 171-115. However, the Panthers swam faster than last week as they continue to cut their personal best times.
Missouri Valley Conference diver of the week Bethany Olson took first in the 3-meter dive with 258.90 points. Olson also took second in the 1-meter dive with 233.50 points. Teammate Kristin Staude finished the 3-meter dive with 143.30 points and 1-meter dive with 138.90 points.
Chelsea Hartman took second in the 1,000 freestyle. She finished the race in a time of 10:43.65.
Josie Itzen finished with a time of 1:58.90 in the 200 freestyle. Her time was good enough for third place.
In the 100 backstroke, Natalie Johnson took third. She finished with a time of 1:02.25.
Freshman Caryn Knight took the runner-up spot in the 100 breaststroke. She finished with a time of 1:07.94. Knight also finished second in the 200 breaststroke, coming in with a time of 2:28.85.
Rebecca Ortmann, with a time of 25.67, took third in the 50 freestyle.
Kelly McCullough took second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.54. Johnson followed closely behind with a time of 2:13.91, taking fourth.
Sarah Hedeen(2:31.97) and Itzen(2:33.66) took third and fourth, respectively in the 200 breaststroke.
Jaime Pearson finished in 1:01.46 in the 100 butterfly, followed by Kayla McCormick with a time of 1:02.36.
The relay team of MacKenzie Smith, Ashlee Graham, Hartman, and Ortmann took first in the 400 freestyle relay. The quartet finished with a time of 3:44.62.
The Panther continue their action next Friday, Nov. 5. UNI will take on South Dakota at the Glen F. Henry Swimming and Diving Pool in Cedar Falls. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m.
