Michael Hagensick enters his third season as the UNI swimming assistant coach after joining in July 2018. He primarily coaches the sprint events.Â
Prior to joining the staff, Mike served as an assistant senior coach for the Black Hawk Area Swim Team (BLAST) for ten years. At BLAST, he was a member of the Iowa Age Group Staff of the Year four times, as he aided in progressing over 200 swimmers through the sport, and many into collegiate swimming.Â
He was also the head coach at Waterloo West High School for girls swimming and Cedar Falls High School for boys swimming.
Mike started an adaptive swim lesson program for young swimmers and special-needs children. The Panther Academy for Water Safety continues to grow its impact in the Cedar Valley annually.
A UNI alum, Mike graudated with a degree in elementary education in 2012. He added a master's in special education from Morningside College in 2017. He and his wife, Scotti (Schon), a former cross country and track and field athlete for the Panthers, live in Waverly. They have twin boys, Heath (2) and Oliver (2).
