Panther track and field visits Cyclone Twilight for final pre-conference tune-up

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI track and field team's final meet of next weekend's Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Outdoor Championships kicks off on Friday afternoon as the Panthers visit Ames for the Cyclone Twilight.
Competition is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. CT on Friday with field competition and continue again at 6 p.m. CTwith running events at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
Entering its final regular season meet, Northern Iowa leads the MVC in nine total events:
- Men's 200m (Parker Kiewiet - 20.84)
- Women's 400m Hurdles (Joey Perry - 58.11)
- Men's 4x100m Relay (Chigudu, Kiewiet, Meyers, Nevitt - 39.47)
- Women's 4x400m Relay (Perry, Jones, Wiseman, Randecker - 3:35.26)
- Men's High Jump (Tye Hardin - 7' ¼)
- Women's High Jump (Katy Stephens - 5' 8 ¾)
- Men's Long Jump (Carter Morton - 25' 4)
- Heptathlon (Katy Stephens - 5,728 pts)
- Decathlon (Carter Morton - 7,782 pts)
The Panthers make their way to Ames after strong showings at both the Fresno State Invitational in California and Musco Twilight in Iowa City last weekend. On the west coast, the men's 4x100-meter relay team of Tinashe Chigudu, Parker Kiewiet, Luke Meyers and Luke Nevitt set a new school record in 39.47 seconds for first place, 0.01 of a second from tying the MVC record. Kiewiet, who on Wednesday was named the MVC's Men's Track Athlete of the Week, also won the men's 200-meter dash with a conference best time of 20.84 seconds.
At the Musco Twilight, UNI captured eight event titles including 20 career-best and ten season-best marks, highlighted by a school and meet record performance by Joey Perry in the women's 400-meter hurdles (58.11). Winners included:

- Carter Pheifer - Men's Pole Vault (16' 10 ¾)
- Erica Miner - Women's Pole Vault (13' 1 ½)
Entering the Cyclone Twilight, the Panthers are on pace to qualify 11 athletes in six events for the NCAA West Regional Meet later this month in College Station, Texas. The top-48 declared marks in individual events (except for the heptathlon and decathlon) and top-24 relay entries will qualify for the NCAA West Regional Meet for a chance to punch their ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships next month in Eugene, Oregon.

* The top-12 finishers in each individual event at the NCAA West Regional Meet (minus the heptathlon and decathlon), will qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. For the heptathlon and decathlon, there are no regional meets. Instead, the top-24 declared athletes in these events are accepted directly into the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Carter Morton (decathlon), Katy Stephens and Joey Perry (heptathlon) are all currently on pace to qualify in the multi-event competitions for the national meet
** For relays, only the top-24 entries in each region will qualify for the West Regional Meet. The top-12 finishers at each regional meet will qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
