CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Following its performance at the Jimmy Grant Alumni Invitational last month, the UNI track and field team will return to action this weekend as it sends mid-distance runners and unattached throwers to compete at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, as well as the Minnesota Open in Minneapolis.
Competition at Minnesota will kick off with field events at 11 a.m. CT, followed by track events at noon CT. Running at Iowa will begin at 1 p.m. CT.
Teams in action in Iowa City will include Culver-Stockton, DMAAC, Hawkeye, Iowa, Iowa Central, St. Ambrose and Western Illinois. Programs competing in Minneapolis will include Augsburg, Mass Velocity TC, Milwaukee, Minnesota and Wisconsin-Superior.
The Panthers will compete in just their second and third meets of the young indoor season after crowning 11 champions in December at Iowa's Jimmy Grant Alumni Invitational. Among the notable finishes was Carter Morton dominating the heptathlon, setting a new UNI and Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) scoring record with 6,054 points and career-best marks in four events to earn both conference and national award recognition.
Joey Perry also captured the pentathlon title with 3,953 points to crack UNI's top-five all-time list. Tinashe Chigudu also added his name into the UNI record books as he finished the 60-meter dash in 6.71 seconds, tying the fourth-fastest time in school history.
