Panther track and field: Women’s relay record falls among career-best outings at Iowa

UNI wins five events at Larry Wieczorek Invitational with multiple new career-best marks and a new school record set.
IOWA CITY, Iowa — The UNI track and field team captured five event titles and set 23 new career-best marks on Friday and Saturday, competing at the Iowa Indoor Track Facility and the 2026 Larry Wieczorek Invitational.
Headlining Northern Iowa's strong weekend performance was the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Joey Perry, Jersey Jones, Emma Randecker and Darci Wiseman, who broke a 21-year old program record in the final event of the meet.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Carter Morton opened the first day of action dominating the men's high jump premier as he tied his career-best with a 7' 1 jump. Brylie Lorence (47' 2 ¼) and Breanna Hackman (46' 6 ¼) both set new career-bests in the women's shot put as they finished second and third respectively, while Justin Olson set a new career-best mark in the men's weight throw premier, throwing for 65' with a fifth-place finish. Lexy Foster also set a new career-best in the women's weight throw as she threw for 53' 8 ¼. Rounding out the first day of field competition, Josey Dunbar earned third-place in the women's triple jump with a 37' 6 ¾ leap, as Erica Miner cleared a height of 12' 9 ½ in the women's pole vault premier to finish third.
On the track, Micah Rees clocked a new career-best time to win the men's 3,000-meter college race in 8:27.93, followed by Mary Kelly winning the women's 600-meter dash in 1:37.61. In the women's 200 meters, Jones (25.22) and Wiseman (25.35) both challenged each other for first and second place finishes respectively while both setting new career-best times.
Competing on the track on Saturday, Evie Henneberry (5:05.81) and Brooke O'Brien (5:08.85) set career marks as they finished first and third respectively in the women's mile, as Kaden Emanuel hustled his way to a silver medal in the men's 400 meters in 49.49 seconds. Randecker ran the women's 400-meter dash premier in 55.58 seconds, collecting a second place finish with Carlie Jo Fusco on her heels finishing 58.40 in sixth. Claire Wright set a new career-best in the women's 800-meter premier as she crossed the finish line in 2:15.01 to take sixth.
In the relays, the women's 4x400-meter team of Perry, Jones, Randecker and Wiseman closed out the meet setting a new school record in 3:40.97, finishing in second place.

UNI returns to action next Friday as it competes at Wartburg College's Friday Knight Lights in Waverly, as well at Notre Dame’s Meyo Classic in South Bend, Ind.
