GREENWOOD, Ind. --- Four members from both the UNI wrestling and women's golf programs received academic recognition on Tuesday as College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced its Academic All-District selections for at-large sports.
UNI wrestlers Trever Anderson, Ryder Downey, Parker Keckeisen and Wyatt Voelker, along with women's golfers Victoria Hualde, Anna Jensen, McKenna Mallow and Anna Nacos all received recognition for their combined academic and athletic achievements during the past school year. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Additionally, Downey, Keckeisen and Voelker were selected to the CSC's Academic All-America ballot, which will be voted on over the next week. Academic All-American selections will be announced on July 9.
CSC sponsors academic recognition for soccer, volleyball, basketball, swimming & diving, tennis, baseball, softball and track & field/cross country. At-large honors are awarded to student-athletes competing in wrestling, golf, lacrosse, rowing, gymnastics, and numerous other NCAA-sponsored sports. Among the qualifications for the award, student-athletes must maintain a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (GPA), be a sophomore of both academic and athletic standing and compete in a specific percentage of regular season competition, and/or the conference championships.
Anderson, Downey, Keckeisen and Voelker all qualified for the NCAA Wrestling Championships this past season, with Keckeisen and Voelker capturing Big 12 Conference individual titles in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In golf action, Hualde, Jensen, Mallow and Nacos all played a key effort in the Panthers' performance on the links this year, with Jensen placing second and Haulde ninth at the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships in Waterloo, Illinois.
