Fare wins shot put at Iowa State Classic

AMES, Iowa --- Katie Fare topped the women's shot put podium in her fifth consecutive meet on Saturday, winning the event at the Iowa State Classic as part of a two-meet week for the Panthers in Ames, as well as Lincoln, Nebraska and the Frank Sevigne Husker Classic.
Carter Morton notably set a new career-best score in the heptathlon at Nebraska, surpassing 5,800 points for the first time, while Amelia Hill, competing unattached, recorded a new top-five in Ames in the women's 5,000 meters.
HOW IT HAPPENED AT THE IOWA STATE CLASSIC
Maleah Walker collected a third-place finish in the women's long jump as she leaped 5.47 meters. Annalise Zeinemann also finished fourth in the women's pole vault, clearing 3.35 meters.
Fare walked away with a first-place finish in the women's shot put with a toss of 16.60 meters. On the men's side, Spencer Kessel (18.41), Carson Lienau (18.14), and Sebastian Swistak (17.34) finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.
Maya Williams competed in the women's 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 56.33 seconds for a fourth-place performance. Zach Fall finished fourth in the men's 400 meters in a time of 49.06, while Emma Hoins earned fifth place in the women's 800-meter run (2:10.72).
Meanwhile, Hill, competing unattached, earned herself a sixth-place finish in the women's mile as she crossed the finish line in 4:49.89, the fourth-fastest time in Panther history.
Deonte Dean earned himself a second-place finish in the men's 200-meter dash (21.82), while Caroline Benfeldt–Sorensen competed in the women's 200-meter dash placing fourth (24.95). Drew Bartels took third in the men's 60-meter hurdle finals in 7.92 seconds. In the women's 60-meter dash, Jessica Kyne earned third place as she finished in 7.60 seconds, as Sheldon Lucas (6.86) finished third in the men's 60 meters.
HOW IT HAPPENED AT THE FRANK SEVIGNE HUSKER INVITATIONAL
In Lincoln, Brendan Safley took home a silver medal in the men's pole vault, clearing a height of 5.30 meters. While a pair of Panthers in Katy Stephens (3,755) and Joey Perry (3,463) placed third and eighth respectively in the pentathlon.
Morton earned himself a third-place finish in the heptathlon, posting a career-best score with 5,807 points. Zack Butcher also placed eighth in the heptathlon with a score of 5,140 points.
