CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- With just a few short weeks until the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Indoor Championships, the UNI track and field team will get an early opportunity to compete in the very same venue this weekend as it head to Chicago for the Wisconsin Windy City Invite on Friday and Saturday.
Competition is slated to begin at 1 p.m. CT on Friday afternoon and Saturday at 10 a.m. CT at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center at Gately Park. Competing teams in the Windy City this weekend include Northern Colorado, Ball State, DePaul, Florida A&M, Harvard, Howard, Indiana, Louisville, Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Rutgers, South Florida, Toledo, Tulane and Wisconsin.
The Panthers return to action after another strong weekend of performances at both the Iowa State Classic in Ames and the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln. Katie Fare captured her fifth women's shot put title of the indoor season at Iowa State with a toss of 16.60 meters, earning MVC Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors and jumping to 20th in the NCAA Division I rankings.
Carter Morton also set a new career-best score in a third-place effort in the heptathlon with 5,807 points to earn MVC Men's Field Athlete of the Week recognition. Morton currently ranks eighth in Division I in the event this season. Katy Stephens also cracked the top-five all-time list in the pentathlon with a career-best score of 3,755 points.
Brendan Safley continues to post strong performances in the men's pole vault having placed second at Nebraska last weekend after clearing 5.30 meters. He currently sits 22nd in the nation in the event.
