Sonderman, Lillie pace UNI cross country at MVC Championships

EVANSVILLE, Ind. --- The Northern Iowa cross country team participated in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships at the Angel Mounds Course in southern Indiana on Friday, with four top-25 individual finishers in the women's six-kilometer race, and two in the men's eight-kilometer competition.
UNI finished in fifth place out of 11 teams in women's action with the men taking ninth. Bradley would capture both men's and women's team titles.
Opening with the women's 6K race, freshman Lindsey Sonderman topped the Panther field with a 16th place finish (21:32), followed by Amelia Hill in 19th (21:39). Melody Ochana crossed the line in 24th (21:52), immediately followed by Meghan Wheatley in 25th in a time of 21:54.
Leah Klapatauskas (Dubuque, Iowa/Senior HS) ran a time of 22:05 for a 31st place showing, followed by Kaylee Woolery in 34th with a career-best time of 22:11. Rounding out the women in 53rd place was Clare Wright in 49th (22:53), Sarah Feddersen in 55th (22:57), and Brooke O'Brien in 62nd (23:16).
On the men's side, Colin Lillie led the pack in the 8K, taking 22nd place (25:15), accompanied by Ethan Olds in 23rd with a new career-best finish of 25:16. Micah Rees crossed the finish line in 48th with a time of 25:47, followed by Drew Dombrosky in 59th (26:07), along with Ty Getz in 70th (26:20).
Closing out the morning in 75th place was Caleb Kass with a mark of 26:30, Jonas VanDis in 78th with a time of 26:39, Brayden Picken in 85th (27:24), and Josh Gormley in 88th (27:31).

UNI returns to action on Friday, Nov. 14th at the NCAA Midwest Regional at OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
