Panther track & field sweeps up 14 home titles at Jack Jennett Open

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- The UNI track and field team returned to action following the winter break with an impressive showing on Friday on its home track inside the UNI-Dome at the Jack Jennett Open.
Facing off against competitors from Wartburg, Hawkeye and DMACC, Northern Iowa swept up 14 titles in 23 events, including a strong performance from redshirt senior Katie Fare, who won two women's events in the field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Josey Dunbar kicked off the day for the Panthers by winning the women's long jump with a 5.78-meter leap with Katy Stephens (5.68m) and Joey Perry (5.50m) following in second and third respectively. Zack Butcher won the men's long jump with a 7.19-meter jump as Ethan Peters (7.04m) came in second as an unattached athlete and Brody Lovell (6.30m) taking third.
UNI swept both the men's and women's weight throws with Carson Lienau (17.03m), Nathan Wilde (16.94m) and Spencer Kessel (16.84m) going 1-2-3. Katie Fare topped the women's field with a winning throw of 17.44 meters as Kileigh Lachacz took third (14.70m).
In the women's shot put, Fare captured her second event win of the day with a throw of 16.78 meters, as Breanna Hackman followed in second (13.92m) and Lauren Kounkel, who competed unattached, placed third (12.73m). Reigning Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) indoor shot put champion Spencer Kesser won the men's competition with an 18.45-meter toss, with Lineau placing second (17.73m) and David Russell taking third (16.92m).
Northern Iowa swept the top five places on the podium in the women's mile, led by Kaylin Lacher with a winning time of 5:05.92. Liza Schaffer (5;07.08) and Leah Klapatauskas (5:10.26) followed in second and third places respectively..
Hunter Manock locked up the first place in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.02 seconds, with Drew Bartels and Carter Accola following in second and third places, trailing Manock by only 0.19 seconds. On the women's side, Paige Kisley (8.65), Olivia Kramer (8.80) and Darci Wiseman (9.15) finished 1-2-3.
The Panthers swept seven of the top eight spots in the finals of the women's 60-meter dash, led by Eva Van De Mortel and a winning time of 7.62 seconds. Jessica Kyne (7.64) and Libby Wedewer (7.68) finished second and third behind Van De Mortel. Luke Meyers (6.76) and Sheldon Lucas (6.86) finished first and second in the men's 60 meters, with Luke Sayonkon, competing unattached, finishing fourth with a time of 6.96 seconds.
Parker Kiewiet, the lone Panther in the men's 600 meters, clocked a winning time of 1:20.86, as Darci Wiseman topped the women's 200-meter dash field in 26.15 seconds. Carlie Jo Fusco (26.17) and Anna Winterrowd (26.50) followed Wiseman in second and third place. Anna Van Kooten closed out the afternoon with a win in the women's 800-meter run (2:20.95), with Claire Wright (2:21.41) and Kaylee Woolery (2:29.76) following close behind in second and third.
UP NEXT
The Panthers return to action tomorrow at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City. Field competition is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CT, followed by track events at the Iowa Indoor Track Building at 1 p.m. CT.
