UNI swim & dive: Gold team emerges victorious in Panthers’ intrasquad meet

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI swimming and diving opened up the 2024-25 season on Saturday afternoon in their annual Purple and Gold Intrasquad meet inside the Glen F. Henry Pool, with the Gold Team narrowly securing a 150-137 win.
Saturday's action in the pool opened with the 200-yard medley relay with the Gold Team of Abby Lear, Sydney Aird, Hannah Nedder and Morgan Meyer finishing first ahead of the Purple Team of Elyse Brayton, Ema Lavigne, Faith Larsen, and Waren Graeve. Natalie Harris and Molly Johnson finished first and second for Gold in the 1,000-yard freestyle, with Abigail Barkhurst in third for Purple.
In the 200-yard freestyle Morgan Meyer came out on top with a win for Gold, followed by Hallory Domnick would get second for Purple and Peyton Pasqualicchio in third for Gold. The 200-yard individual medley would see the Purple Team finish first and second with Lavigne winning followed by Brayton. Aird would finish third for the Gold Team.
Larsen, the reigning Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) 50-yard freestyle champion topped the field in the sprinting event for Purple as Lear followed in second for Gold. Hannah Nedder placed third in the event. Moving to the 100-yard butterfly, Nedder emerged as the victor for Gold as Larsen followed along with Nikki Walters.
The 100-yard freestyle would see Meyer coming out on top and Lear following for the Gold Team in second, with Graeve in third. In the 100-yard backstroke, Brayton grabbed her first win of the day with Abby Steward finishing second for Purple and Rachel Rolow in third for Gold.
Domnick topped the field in the 500-yard freestyle with Sam Oeltjen coming in second for Purple, followed by Natalie Harris in third for Gold. Aird won the 100-yard backstroke for the Gold Team with Lavigne and Jenna Breitbach finishing in second and third respectively, while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Meyer, Nedder, Harris and Lear topped the Gold lineup Larsen, Graeve, Josie Parton and Domnick.
In the diving competition, Erica Peters led the way with wins in both the one and three-meter boards, as Trista Thomspon and Hannah Taylor finished second and third on the one-meter board. Thompson also took second in the three-meter competition as Abby Hutchins grabbed third-place.
In an entertaining finish to the meet, members of the Panther diving team partook in a 50-yard freestyle sprint, with Peters leading the way with a first-place finish, followed by Hutchins and Taylor. UNI swimmers also took to the boards in one-meter competition as Meyer topped the field with a win for the Gold Team, followed by Lavigne and Graeve for Purple.

The Panthers return to the pool next Friday, Oct. 4 as they host the Iowa Hawkeyes in their first dual meet of the season. Diving competition is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. CT, followed by swimming at 5 p.m. CT. Live results can be found on the Meet Mobile app.
