CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The 2024-25 college swimming season will officially open for UNI this Friday as the Panthers take on in-state rival Iowa in the first dual meet of the season inside the Wellness-Recreation Center's Glen F. Henry Pool.
Diving competition is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. CT with swimmers set to hit the pool at 5 p.m. CT. Admission is free and open to the public. The meet can also be watched live on YouTube, with additional live results available on the Meet Mobile app and Dive Meets.
Northern Iowa takes on the Hawkeyes to open the season once again coming after a 196.5-103.5 Iowa dual win last October in Iowa City. UNI has beaten Iowa once in dual competition, coming back in October 2021 in Iowa City.
This week's meet comes after the Panthers hosted their annual Purple and Gold Intrasquad meet over the weekend, a meet that saw the Gold Team pull out a narrow 150-137 victory.
The Panthers begin the new season under eighth year head coach Nick Lakin, the program's all-time leader in dual meet wins with 57. UNI was also picked sixth in this year's Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) preseason poll.
Northern Iowa returns all four swimmers from its school record setting 200-yard freestyle relay team that topped the podium at the 2024 MVC Championships in Abby Lear, Waren Graeve, Morgan Meyer and Faith Larsen. Larsen also returns as the two-time defending MVC champion in the 50-yard freestyle.
In the diving well, the Panthers return a solid core of veteran divers, including All-MVC Honorable Mention performer Trista Thompson, who qualified and competed at last year's NCAA Diving Zones. Other key returners in diving include Erica Peters, Abby Hutchins, Hannah Taylor, Maddie Moran and Avery Hogan, with freshman Natalie Devoll joining the roster as well.
Other key returners in swimming include 2024 Paralympic medalist Olivia Chambers, Sydney Aird, Hallory Domnick, Ema Lavigne, Hannah Nedder, Meghan Pallett, Cali Prochaska and Abby Steward.Â
UNI also adds 11 new faces to the program, including swimmers Abigail Bankhurst, Crystal Benjamin, Elyse Brayton, Aspen Cole, Natalie Harris, Molly Johnson, Sam Oeltjen, Josie Parton, Peyton Pasqualicchio, and Paige Seehawer.Â
