CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI track and field packs their bags and heads to South Dakota for the SDSU Indoor Classic this weekend with just two weeks to go before the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Indoor Championships in Chicago.
Competition is slated to begin at 4 p.m. CT on Friday with an 11 a.m. start time on Saturday at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
The Panthers combined five individual wins in their last outings last weekend at the Wartburg Indoor Select and Iowa State Classic. On Friday in Waverly, Amanda Lietz finished in first-place in the women's pentathlon with a personal-best score of 3,073 points in the Hoover Fieldhouse as Darci Wiseman placed second in the pentathlon with 2,957 points. On the men's side of the multi's, Brody Lovell topped the podium with 4,650 points, recording a career-best time in the 1,000-meter run and Colin Buch, competing unattached, placed third with 4,217 points.
In Ames, Brendan Safley secured first-place in the men's pole vault with a career-best vault of 5.23 meters, recording career-best performances in each of his last two meets in the event. Alivia Silvestri won the women's pole vault after clearing 3.45 meters. In the women's long jump, Josey Dunbar finished second with a leap of 5.44 meters. In the men's long jump, Zach Butcher took home gold with a 6.90-meter jump. Competing unattached, Katie Fare finished second in the women's shot put with a 15.78-meter toss, while Dunbar also claimed second-place in the triple jump for the purple and gold with a jump of 10.55 meters.
Rylie Todd took second place in the women's high jump after clearing 1.67 meters in the event. On the men's side, Ethan Peters finished in third-place after clearing 1.94 meters. On the track, Chase Knoche set a new career-best and recorded the fourth fastest time in program history in 1:48.50 to take fourth place in the men's 800-meter. In the women's mile, Emma Hoins clocks a career-best time of 4:54.40 to finish in third place, breaking her own mark for the fifth-fastest indoor mile time in school history.
In the 4x400-meter relay, a team of Libby Wedewer, Joey Perry, Auriona Kimbrough and Jill Bennett placed third in a time of 3:50.53. On the men's side, Onal Mitchell, Chase Knoche, Luke Meyers and Kaden Emanuel finished third in a time of 3:17.44.
