ST. LOUIS --- Two members of the UNI track and field team have been recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) with weekly honors, as announced by the league office on Wednesday morning.
Distance runners Amelia Hill and Colin Lillie have both been named the MVC's Track Athletes of the Week after breakout performances at Notre Dame's Meyo Classic last Friday night.
Hill, a redshirt senior from Ankeny, Iowa, placed eighth in the women's 5,000 meters in South Bend, setting a new program record in the event in 16:38.92, the fastest time in the conference this season. Her performance topped Kelsey Kirchoff's 2016 school record by 14 seconds in a crowded 47-woman field. This marks the second time this year Hill has received the honor after previously being recognized back on Jan. 14 after her performance at the Hawkeye Invitational.
Lillie, a Council Bluffs, Iowa native and redshirt sophomore walk-on, took home third place in the men's 5,000-meter run, clocking a time of 14:20.39. Ranking third in the MVC this year, Lillie's performance broke Velibor Radojevic's 2004 school record by five seconds.
In addition to Hill and Lillie, Indiana State swept the MVC's Field Athlete of the Week awards, with men's honors going to Jake Ottersbach and women's honors to Olivia Marshall.
Hill, Lillie and the Panthers return to action this weekend for a pair of meets beginning on Friday at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, as well as Nebraska's Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Lincoln.
