CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The indoor collegiate track and field season comes to a head for the UNI Panthers this weekend as Northern Iowa heads to Chicago for the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships at the Track & Field Center At Gately Park in Chicago this weekend.

Competition will begin Sunday at 9 a.m.CT with multi-events, and 9:30 a.m.CT on Monday. Live coverage of the meet will be available both days beginning in the afternoon on ESPN+.

The Panthers were picked to finish in third place on the men's pre-championship poll, while the women were selected to take home seventh place. UNI finished third with 123 points at last year's MVC Championships in the men's competition, with the women taking home sixth place, tied with Belmont with 55 points.

Preparing for the big weekend ahead, the Panthers competed at the Iowa Open and the USATF Indoor Championships last weekend to prepare for postseason competition. The purple and gold brought home a total of five individual champions at the Iowa Open.

High jumper Rylie Todd kicked off the meet in Iowa City by taking home second place with a leap of 1.70 meters. In the men's high jump, Ethan Peters finished in second place after clearing an even two meters. Brendan Safley won the men's pole vault for a fifth time this indoor season, clearing 5.15 meters. On the women's side, Alivia Silvestri won the women's pole vault premier with a personal-best vault of 3.86 meters, tying the third-highest mark in program history.

In the distance events, Chase Lauman set a new meet record with a time of 8:19.91 to take home gold in the men's 3,000-meter premier. Clinching the women's 400-meter premier title, Darci Wiseman clocked in a time of 58.75 with Anna Winterrowd following in second with a personal-best time of 59.21. Jayden Dickson took second place in career-best fashion in the men's 600-meter premier (1:19.78). Joey Perry crossed the finish line in a time of 25.38 to win in the women's 200-meter premier.

In addition to Panther athletes competing in Iowa City, UNI's Kate Fare earned fifth place with a throw of 16.73 meters in the women's shot put at the USATF Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
