CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI tennis will kick off the back half of a four-meet homestand beginning late Friday afternoon hosting the Iowa Central Tritons at 5 p.m. CT. Northern Iowa will also welcome the North Dakota Fighting Hawks to town on Sunday at 10 a.m. Both duals will take place at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo.
The Panthers enter the weekend on the heels of their first dual win of the season last Saturday in a 7-0 sweep over Western Illinois. UNI also hosted Northern Illinois last Friday in a 6-1 home loss.
Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso led the purple and gold a week ago with a pair of doubles victories, including an upset win over the nationally ranked duo of Erika Dimitriev and Nataly Ninova of Northern Illinois in a 6-3 win, earning the Panther pairing Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Doubles Players of the Week honors. In singles, UNI swept all six matches against NIU, including three in three-set battles. Kim Zizek went perfect on the weekend, winning both of her doubles matches with Andrijana Brkic, and posting consecutive singles victories.
Northern Iowa matches up with Iowa Central in a dual for the first time ever, with the Tritons posting a 3-1 record on the year in duals. UNI is 7-3 all-time against North Dakota, which includes a 6-1 loss in Grand Forks last season. Sitting at 2-6 on the season, the Fighting Hawks are led by Jule Schulte with a 4-1 singles record this year, as well as Sapir Sela and Andrea Jansson with a perfect 5-0 doubles mark.
