UNI women’s tennis opens season at Gopher Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The UNI women's tennis team had a strong showing at the Gopher Invitational to open the 2026-27 season. The Panthers battled through three days of singles and doubles action against strong competition, and ultimately came up victorious in multiple singles matches and one doubles match.
On Friday, the doubles pairing of Yangjiaxin Li and Abbie Peterson dropped their match. Doubles pair Lucia Schuknecht and Andrea Noa Galin dropped one match but won their second match against St. Thomas. In singles action, Peterson, Schuknecht, Li, and Santosa all fell short in their opening matches. Andrea Noa Galin had a hard fought win against Aiyana Abbott from Marquette 3-6, 6-1, 10-8.
Saturday saw singles matches played by Yangjiaxin Li, Kayla Santosa, Abbie Peterson, and Andrea Noa Galin. Li, Santosa, and Peterson fought hard but ended up coming up short in their respective matches. Andrea Noa Galin won her match against Soneera Kavya from St. Thomas, 6-0, 6-4.
On Sunday, Li, Peterson, and Galin all came up short in their singles matches, while Santosa won her singles match against Honoka Yamashita from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 6-3, 6-1.

The Panthers will travel to Normal, Illinois, to compete in the Redbird invite on October 2-4.
