Panther tennis rounds out homestand with split of Iowa Central and North Dakota

WATERLOO, Iowa --- UNI tennis wrapped up its four-match homestand early on Sunday afternoon, splitting its two weekend matches with a 7-0 shutout against Iowa Central on Friday and falling to North Dakota by a score of 6-1 on Sunday.
In Friday afternoon's competition, the Panthers swept all matches against the Tritons, beginning with victories in doubles as Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso swept Adjowa Sika Geli and Abide Valentine Talaki (6-0), while Andrijana Brkic and Kim Zizek defeated Ayawavi Vania Dotse and Im Garba (6-2). Brkic rolled past Dotse (6-0, 6-2) in the top singles match, as Dalecka held off Talaki in the second set to win, 6-2, 6-4. Zizek emerged victorious in a three-set battle with Geli (3-6, 6-3, 10-1) for her third straight singles win, while Kanyanut Sudsaard defeated Garba (6-0, 6-2).
The Fighting Hawks would prove to be a challenge for Northern Iowa, with Dalecka picking up the lone victory of the day for the Panthers in a 6-3, 6-0 singles win over Andrea Jansson in the second singles position. Brkic, Cardoso and Sudsaard all took their respective singles matches to three sets, but would come up short, while North Dakota swept all three doubles matchups.

UNI returns to action on Friday, Feb. 27 as it visits Saint Louis at 1:30 p.m. CT at the St. Clair Tennis Courts, and again on Saturday at SIU Edwardsville at 2:30 p.m. CT.
