CEDAR FALLS, Iowa ---Â UNI tennis will head to eastern Nebraska for its first road duals of the season this weekend with back-to-back meets on Saturday and Sunday at Creighton and Omaha.
The Panthers will take on the Bluejays on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. CT at the Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center in central Omaha, before facing the Mavericks on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. CT at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
Northern Iowa returns to action after dropping their first dual of the season last Saturday at home in a 6-1 loss to Milwaukee. Kanyanut Sudsaard picked up the lone victory for the Panthers in the no. 5 singles slot with a three-set win over Sara Simonova. In doubles play, UNI was competitive in all three matches, with Andrijana Brkic and Kim Zizek picking up the lone doubles win for the purple and gold in a narrow 7-6 victory.
Since the first all-time dual meeting during the 1986-87 season, UNI and Creighton have split the last 28 meetings, with the Bluejays emerging victorious last time out to open the 2021-22 campaign. Creighton dropped its first two duals of the year to Wichita State and Minnesota before grabbing a 6-1 win at Minnesota State last weekend. Milvika Shukla leads the Bluejays with three singles wins this year, with Bianca Rademacher claiming victory in two of her first three matches.Â
Omaha leads the all-time series with the Panthers by a 6-4 margin with UNI emerging on the winning side in a shortened 4-0 win last February. The Mavericks, who will host Drake late on Friday afternoon, dropped consecutive road duals at Bradley and Illinois State last weekend after grabbing wins at home against Sioux Falls at Midland the week prior. Jessica Aragon leads Omaha with a 12-8 singles record this season, while Zoe Adkins in 10-8. In doubles, the pairing of Brook Covington and Keegan VanPelt leads the way with a 5-3 mark.
