Panther tennis drops road duals at Creighton and Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. --- UNI tennis dropped a pair of dual meets on the road over the weekend, falling short to both the Creighton Bluejays and Omaha Mavericks on Saturday and Sunday in eastern Nebraska.
Starting the weekend at Creighton, Darta Dalecka was the lone Panther to take a win from the Bluejays, picking up a three-set win over Valerie Negin (6-4, 5-7, 10-3) in the no. 2 single slot. Andrijana Brkic fell to Malvika Shukla (6-2, 6-1), while Lorena Cardoso came up short to Bianca Rademacher (6-1, 6-0). Kim Zizek dropped her match to Ana Paula Martinez (6-0, 6-3), with Kanyanut Sudsaard falling to Siri Kongara (6-1, 6-0) and Issa Sullivan coming up short in straight sets to Annika Elvestrom (6-1, 6-2).Â
In doubles, the junior duo of Dalecka and Cardoso fell to Shukla and Rademacher (6-2), with Brkic and Zizek falling to Negin and Martinez (6-3). Sudsaard and Sullivan dropped their doubles match to Kongara and Elvestrom (6-3).Â
Brkic began Sunday's dual against the Mavericks with a singles win over Paula Arcarons (6-1, 7-5), while Sullivan also put UNI on the board after Addison Miller retired from the match after Sullivan led 6-4, 6-6. Dalecka fell to Zoey Adkins (6-1, 6-1), as Cardoso came up short to Khayli Buckels (6-2, 6-2). Zizek battled Keegan VanPelt in two tough sets, but ultimately fell short in three sets, as Sudsaard fell to Summer Shannon, also in three frames.
In doubles with Omaha, Sullivan and Sudsaard dropped their match to Miller and Shannon (6-1), with Cardoso and Dalecka being swept by Adkins and Arcarons (6-0). Brkic and Zizek's match against VanPelt and Colby Kelley was suspended and not completed after the Mavericks secured the team doubles point.
ÂUP NEXT
UNI returns home on Friday morning to host the Northern Illinois Huskies at 10 a.m. CT at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo. The Panthers will also host the Western Illinois Leathernecks on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
