Chambers and Prochaska add to medal totals at U.S. Paraympic Swimming National Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. --- UNI's Olivia Chambers and Cali Prochaska both added to their para swimming medal collections over the weekend as the Panther duo competed at the 2024 U.S. Paralympic Swimming National Championships at the Rosen Aquatic Center in central Florida.
Chambers, a three-time para swimming national champion who won one gold and two silver medals at this past summer's Paralympic Games in Paris, won five individual events in multi-class competition in Orlando while also setting a pair of world records in the process. Meanwhile, Prochaska, a four-time national champion who won gold at the Parapan American Games in 2023, captured three medals, including one gold with two third-place finishes.
Friday's action began with Chambers winning the 400-meter freestyle in a time of 4:33.46. Both Chambers and Prochaska competed together in the 200-meter breaststroke, with Chambers winning her second gold medal of the day with a winning time of 2:51.64, and Prochaska taking fourth place (3:51.94). Prochaska capped the night by teaming up with Ryan Eidelman, Tomas Rodriguez, Bebe Kiel for the mixed 400-meter freestyle relay (34 point), swimming the anchor leg with a 1:10.50 split to win gold.
On Saturday, Chambers continued her record breaking para career with two world record performances in her first-place finish in the 1,500-meter freestyle, setting a new S13 classification record in 17:48.60, while also breaking the S13 800-meter freestyle record with her split time of 9:29.21. Chambers again won gold in the 100-meter backstroke, winning with a time of 1:08.87, with Prochaska clocking a 1:24.39.
Rounding out competition on Sunday, Chambers won her fifth and final race in the 200-meter individual medley, posting a time of 2:24.77. Prochaska closed out her national championship meet with a third-place finish in the mixed 200-meter medley relay, swimming the butterfly leg.
Chambers, Prochaska and the Panthers return to the pool on Jan. 11 when UNI takes on Iowa State in a dual at Beyer Hall in Ames at 2 p.m. CT.
