
Multiple records falls for UNI swim & dive at Hawkeye Invitational

Panthers break three school and one MVC record in Iowa City. UNI returns to the pool for Panther Diving Invite on Dec. 7.
IOWA CITY, Iowa — UNI swimming and diving saw three school and one Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) record fall as it hit the pool at the Campus Wellness-Recreation Center in Iowa City for the Hawkeye Invitational.
The Panthers started things off on Thursday with preliminary heats of the 500-yard freestyle that saw Olivia Chambers and Hallory Domnick advance to the finals with 18th and 23rd place finishes. Domnick clocked a 5:08.47, while Chambers set a new Para American record in the S13 classification with a time of 4:57.04.
Faith Larsen broke her own school record in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.48 seconds, dropping 0.02 seconds off her top time set in 2023, with Abby Lear finishing 12th (23.27), Morgan Meyer placing 17th (23.32) and Waren Graeve taking 25th (23.46).
Abby Lear, Larsen, Meyer and Graeve placed third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a new school and MVC record time of 1:30.71, while the team of Elyse Brayton, Sydney Aird, Hannah Nedder and Larsen placed 13th in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:44.49.
Friday saw the quartet of Brayton, Jenna Breitbach, Nedder and Larsen place tenth in the 200-yard medley relay (1:41.76), while Larsen and Nedder both qualified for finals and placed tenth (54.82) and 19th (55.51) respectively.
Meyer meanwhile recorded Northern Iowa's fourth broken record of the meet by placing seventh in the finals for the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.28, as Domnick came in 23rd with a time of 1:52.56.
The 100-yard breaststroke saw Aird, Ema Lavigne and Breitbach qualify for finals and place 26th, 29th and 31st respectively with times of 1:04.62, 1:05.00 and 1:05.57. Brayton was the lone Panther in the 100-yard backstroke placing 14th in the finals (56.73). The team of Domnick, Meyer, Chambers and Peyton Pasqualicchio closed out Friday's action, placing 12th in finals with a time of 7:33.70.
On Saturday, UNI saw Brayton and Pasqualicchio go back-to-back in 25th and 26th in the finals of the 200-yard backstroke with times of 2:02.07 and 2:02.97. Larsen placed third in the 100-yard freestyle finals (49.27) as Meyer and Lear followed closely behind in 12th (50.66) and 20th (50.93). Lavigne placed 30th in the finals of the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22:13) with Aird right behind in 31st (2:23.48).
Nikki Walters and Sam Oeltjen finished 25th and 28th in the finals of the 200-yard butterfly with times of 2:05.35 and 2:06.76, as the Panther team of Meyer, Larsen, Graeve and Lear saw a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:21.57).
In the 1,650-yard freestyle, Chambers placed 12th with a time of 17:01.70, with Paige Seehawer coming in 22nd (17:38.34) and Abigail Barhurst in 25th (17:46.11).
Over in the diving well, Trista Thompson was the top finisher for the purple and gold in the one-meter springboard prelims in 25th place (236.35), followed by Erica Peters in 30th (227.10) and Natalie Devoll in 36th (213.75). On the three-meter boards, Erica Peters was the lone diver to qualify for finals and placed 22nd with a score of 248.70.
